Who We Are

In January 2005 a small group of parents of Autistic children founded the Cabarrus County Chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina. Since then our group has grown substantially in both membership and initiatives. Our core initiatives are to support and provide organized activities for those individuals and families affected by Autism and to promote education and awareness in our community.

Our support meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of every month during the school calendar year at Epworth United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, 1030 Burrage Rd. NE, Concord, NC 28025.

Our initiatives include the following:

Support and networking meetings - Held monthly formal with speakers and informal networking only.

Coffee-Time: Held monthly and informal support meetings held during the day.

Connect with us on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/#!/autismcabarrus

Newsletter - provides information about upcoming events and current Autism related information.

Family Events - These are organized events such as bowling, picnics, holiday parties, etc designed for our families to come together, socialize and network in a safe, fun and understanding environment.

James P. Garrison Teacher Grants. These grants are awarded to local teachers allowing them to purchase materials to help educate students with Autism. We have awarded more then $16,000 in teacher grants since 2005.

Conference and Resource Fair– This annual conference provides an opportunity for those affected by Autism to see professional speakers and gain information about what services are provided within our community by a variety of organizations. Organizations offering therapies, treatments and information about services are present.  Always FREE to the public.

Book drive. Our chapter donates new books and reference materials about Autism to the local library system to help educate our community.

Educational Seminars - Educating the community is a critical part of our awareness initiative. We provide Autism 101 Workshops free to focus groups who want to learn about Autism.
